Before that, Montreal mixes hot music and cool old-world charm during the annual Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada.
This year, the 31st annual festival, June 25 to July 6, offers sonic (and soulful) delights from noon to midnight in a spacious four-city block area in the heart of the city. A rich variety of music, food and scenes can be discovered within and without the festival gates.
At the festival, there’s always music somewhere. Much of it is gratis. Free shows start every day at noon with a mix of high school jazz bands, Dixieland bands, college combos and jazz orchestras taking turns on four outdoor stages placed around the grounds — the Rio Tinto Alcan stage (corner Ste. Catherine and Jeanne-Mance streets), CBC/Radio-Canada stage (corner De Maisonneuve Boulevard and Balmoral Street) and Festival stage (entrance to complex Desjardins). More...
