Bill Dixon, a jazz trumpeter, bandleader and composer, died Wednesday, June 16 after a prolonged illness, according to Thrill Jockey Records. The 84-year-old passed away in his North Bennington, Vt., home.
Born in 1925 and raised in Harlem, Dixon musical career began in 1946 when he attended the Hartnett Conservatory of Music after serving in the Army during World War II.
