The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., will mark Jazz Appreciation Month with concerts and workshops throughout April, as well as exhibits that will run through the summer. “Jazz is a truly American style of music that continues to play an important role in our heritage,” said museum director Brent D. Glass.
Concerts include the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra’s “Hub-Tones—The Life of Freddie Hubbard” on April 10 at the museum, the Brubeck Institute Jazz Quartet on April 20 at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald on April 24 at Sylvan Theater on the Mall. Bucky Pizzarelli will host a guitar workshop on April 9 at the museum. An exhibit at the museum focusing on the Apollo Theater and its impact will be on display through August.
